Prenatal massage is a specialized form of massage therapy designed to address the unique physical and emotional needs of a pregnant client. It offers therapeutic, soothing, and relaxing experience while providing numerous benefits for both mother and baby. Receiving a prenatal massage is safe for all trimesters of pregnancy.
Benefits of prenatal massage include:
Your prenatal massage may take place face up and down until week 22, or whenever you are not feeling comfortable doing so. After week 22, your massage will take place in the side lying position and semi-reclined position. These positions ensure safety for you and your growing baby along with promoting optimal circulation, and ligament and joint support.
You may receive prenatal massage in all trimesters of pregnancy. There is no cut-off or limits for when you must stop. Clients can come in
throughout their entire pregnancy, and typically increase their visits as they progress through the third trimester and are getting close to giving birth. If you are unsure about whether or not you can receive a prenatal massage, please consult with your doctor for proper clearance. It is important to do so if you have experienced complications or are having a high risk pregnancy.
